The Trains at NorthPark, presented by Bank of Texas, celebrates its 28th year of a favorite holiday tradition rolling into town from November 21st through January 3rd. New this year is the location, which is Level Two next to Nordstrom. Also new is Mount Rushmore that features Thomas the Train and his friends. Since the first exhibit at NorthPark 17 years ago, more than $13 million has been raised for the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill or injured children.
The most elaborate miniature toy trains exhibit in Texas, The Trains at NorthPark includes locomotives rolling across multiple tracks on a journey across America marked by memorable landmarks. Cityscapes include downtown Dallas, with the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, the State Fair of Texas and the Cotton Bowl; New York City’s Times Square and Grand Central Terminal; Washington, D.C. with The White House; New England’s fall foliage; the Grand Canyon, the Garden of the Gods, Route 66, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and the Albuquerque hot air balloons. More than 70,000 people visit The Trains at NorthPark each season as part of their holiday tradition.
“Holidays are a magical time, and so are trains, so being able to combine the two to raise much needed funds to keep the lights on and the House open for families during a critical time is important,” said Jill Cumnock, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas CEO.
The cost of tickets range from $3 for children (ages 2 to 12) and seniors 65 and older, and $7 for adults. Children under 2 years old are admitted free. Discount tickets, which give $1 off regular admission, are available at local Tom Thumb stores.
The event co-chairs are House volunteers and community leaders April Cook and Jennifer Tobin. Honorary co-chairs are Carolyn Rathjen and Dr. Karl Rathjen. In his role as an orthopedic surgeon at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dr. Rathjen has treated many children who have stayed at the House. They are generous with their time and resources, and the House is grateful for their support.
